Over the holiday break, I was lying in a hammock in Panama thinking about something I’ve wrestled with for a while: growth.
Why do we keep pushing to grow, and how much is enough?
In this episode, I’ll share some raw, unfiltered thoughts on why I’ve decided to lean more into growth, especially this year.
Listen below.
1:08 There’s something in us that says we should always be growing. It’s a topic I’ve personally wrestled with, and I know a lot of firm owners have too.
2:28 Back when I started Future Firm, all I wanted was a couple of hundred grand a year. That felt like enough to sustain my lifestyle.
3:41 When you’re solo or super small, there’s no way around it. Most things are going to land on you, and that can be a vulnerable position to be in.
4:39 I have the money I need to live the life I want. At this point, it’s not about the money. For me, it’s about growing, learning, and seeing if we can take things to the next level.
6:17 As you grow, you’ll bring people onto your team who also want to grow. If the business stalls, they’re not going to stay put. They’ll move on.
8:16 I come across plenty of firm owners who say, “I don’t want to grow.” They picture more employees leading to more problems, more bottlenecks, and even less time than they already have.
10:11 Sometimes all it takes is stepping away. A hammock, some waves, and a bit of space to think. That’s what unplugging can do. It helps you get clear on things.
